10-05 learns about the sinking of the Titanic

First, 10-05 brainstormed what they knew in groups.

Then they thought of questions to ask about what they didn't know.

And finally, after hearing all about it, retold the story in their own words.

Grade 10.10 Spelling Bee

It was our pleasure to host the Spelling Bee for our classmates. It was fun and enjoyable. It made us more responsible and confident. We're now looking forward to the final round of the Spelling Bee, where 2 of our friends Mohamed Humaid & Ghanim Bakhit, will represent our class. We wish them all the very best.

Three cheers for the champions..........

Some People Will Do Anything to get a hold of IAT Macintosh Laptops

The IAT policy of having parents come in and sign for students who mistakenly leave their laptops at various places throughout the campus is a good policy. It's meant to reinforce in the students' minds the responsibility they must take with this investment the school has made in their future and enlist their parents' help in reminding students of that when they forget. You cannot be casual about something you may take for granted when there are people who may want what you have very, very badly. Here are some examples.

Bill Jordan was picking up an iPad from the Apple Store for his employer, according to a Fox affiliate in Denver, Colorado when in broad daylight, thieves grabbed the bag containing his purchase, but the draw string wrapped around Jordan's finger, pulling off the flesh and tendons in the struggle (and leaving only the bone). Police have surveillance tapes from the Cherry Creek Mall where the crime took place.

They never touched the floor — that would have set off an alarm. They didn’t appear on store security cameras. They cut a hole in the roof and came in at a spot where the cameras were obscured by advertising banners.

And they left with some $26,000 in laptop computers, departing the same way they came in — down a 3-inch gas pipe that runs from the roof to the ground outside the store.

Police believe that’s how some brazen bandits managed to swipe 20 Apple notebooks early this morning at a Best Buy on Route 1 in South Brunswick without detection.

"High level of sophistication," said Detective James Ryan, a police department spokesman. "They never set off any motion sensors. They never touched the floor. They rappelled in and rappelled out."

So the next time you, a student, are told you have to have your parent come sign for your laptop in order to get it back, thank the Administrators of IAT for helping you keep something that almost everybody thinks is valuable enough to possess no matter what!

The Importance of Healthy Activities

Being healthy means that your body and mind function as they are supposed to. In your role as a student, it is important that you are both physically and emotionally healthy. You can't do a good job in school, if you don't feel well. Being healthy makes you feel good and allows you to perform more effectively. You can maintain your health by taking care of yourself and avoiding dangerous situations.

Being physically healthy means that your body is functioning without pain, discomfort, or lack of capabilities. Causes of ill health include injuries, disease, diet, stress and genetics. Also, poor cleanliness habits can result in illness or skin ailments.

Having good health is important and beneficial to a student. Health is a necessity. Good health is necessary to effectively do your schoolwork. You can't do well if you don't feel well. Being physically healthy is of prime importance in life. Being ill or not feeling well can drastically affect your ability to work or play. Obviously, if you feel physically healthy, you can be more productive, as well as happier in school.

Physical health starts with a good diet and includes sufficient exercise, as well as generally taking care of your health. Exercise is important not only for your health, but it also increases your energy and vitality. Participate fully in all physical activities sponsored by IAT as well as healthy cultural activities that stress physical exercise and activity.

Preparation:

The most important part of Learning.
"But all your intelligence and a toolbox of study skills will be useless if you don't prepare properly." Your goal in the preparation phase of studying is to create the optimum state of mind for learning. You have to be confident, enthusiastic, relaxed, calm, focused and alert. Remember, you certainly have the brain power to learn anything you want, and it's clear that lack of intelligence is NOT the reason most people have difficulty studying.

Spelling Bees

We hope our local spelling bee won't be as anxiety filled as it was for the young contestant pictured to the left. The fact is however that spelling bees have been around for a very long time, dating back to the 19th century. It should come as no surprise that IAT is doing its own variety of a spelling bee in the coming weeks. Take a look at the over 900 spelling words compiled for grade 10 students to know how to spell. Pretty impressive for a start. When it's all over, we'll have happy faces to post of our winners.

Goal setting

“Don’t be afraid to take big steps. You can’t cross a chasm in two small jumps”……David Lloyd George.

Goal setting and motivation are important skills as they have profound effect on our ability to concentrate and avoid procrastination. Without goals that are clearly defined, articulated and written down we will drift through our teaching / learning and study sessions.
