TELL ME WHY...

Why is the Ocean Blue?

All water appears blue to some extent - it just depends how much you're looking at as to how dark a blue it seems. So a glass of water looks pretty much clear, whereas a deep ocean seems a dark, rich blue. The blueness is due to the way light penetrates the water. All light is made up of the colours of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet). When the light hits particles in the ocean, they reflect only the blue parts of the rainbow, so that is what you see.

On a sunny day, the ocean might look even bluer, because of the colour of the sky being reflected on its surface.

Gentlemen, it's time now to continue with "tell me why", in your journal writing. Looking forward to some interesting facts on science and nature. Enjoy your work.
