HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE THE QUESTION MARK INSIDE?

We all wonder about what gives our lives meaning. It could be a smile, an ambition, a particular hope, the sun after rain, the sea, a whisper in the dark or it could be anything that makes us happy.

What are the words that describe what's important to you, and your own feelings about life's meaning? Sometimes, the simplest words can sum up the deepest feelings.

Words make it possible to share the way we see the world and to discover, perhaps, that we're really not so different from each other. By making up your minds, gentlemen, you have attempted to describe the great mystery of the question mark that lies inside us all. If any0ne had to ask you what you have decided to do in the near future.........I'm sure you will all say: Our life is no longer a question mark. We're on the right track. We have finally decided what cluster to join so that we will have the right direction in life and a better future.

However, if you still feel that you need a little more guidance in making the right choice, then please talk to your teachers. They're here to guide you.

TELL ME WHY...

Why is the Ocean Blue?

All water appears blue to some extent - it just depends how much you're looking at as to how dark a blue it seems. So a glass of water looks pretty much clear, whereas a deep ocean seems a dark, rich blue. The blueness is due to the way light penetrates the water. All light is made up of the colours of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet). When the light hits particles in the ocean, they reflect only the blue parts of the rainbow, so that is what you see.

On a sunny day, the ocean might look even bluer, because of the colour of the sky being reflected on its surface.

Gentlemen, it's time now to continue with "tell me why", in your journal writing. Looking forward to some interesting facts on science and nature. Enjoy your work.

We've run out of room

In the past we left everyday items or messages on the white board, like the way we save documents for class, the rules about laptops, etc but doing so means we are using valuable space that we need for our lessons, so I'm posting here those things that I used to point to on the board whenever it was an answer to your question.

Ways of saving files
Classwork files: yourname-cw-ddmmyy
homework files: yourname-cw-ddmmyy
podcast files: yourname-podcasts-ddmmyy
group work: group#-groupwork-ddmmyy

Rules regarding laptops

1-You must bring your laptop to class everyday.
2- You are responsible for seeing that your laptop is in working order, that includes having a charge good enough to allow you to do your classwork.
3- If there are problems with your laptop you must take it to the IT department during the breaks.
4- You may charge your laptop only during the breaks or before the start of classes, between 7-7:30am.

How to receive and turn in work

Want to know if you have any homework? Any work you must do will be posted either on Edmodo or here at the G10 English blog and will be posted no later than 6pm. It's your responsibility to check both places daily. If you have a question about what it is you must do, please email me at my ATHS email address, and allow 30 minutes for me to respond. Your parents can know whether you have homework by consulting either of these two online tools and of course they can write me as well at abdel.saber@iat.ac.ae

Hot Verbs- take, get, do and make.

Vocabulary - NHPSB-pg 76

Some shopping, back home, two tablets a day, a cold, angry, sure, friends, up your mind, me a favour, a reservation on well with someone, somebody out for a meal, a complaint.

Gentlemen, put the words and phrases in sentences of your own. Use them to complete your journal writing this week. Don't forget to use the Hot verbs- take, get, do and make along with the words and phrases.

It's that time again

Back to vocabulary again folks, and the words below mark our beginning of vocabulary for LC4. Some of these words came from our supplemental authentic reading as well as from unit 8 of our textbooks, but wherever they are from we have to know their meaning and how they're used, so this is your first homework assignment for the last learning cycle of the year. Here are the words

accessory
graffiti
casualty
optimistic
motorway
dilemma
unsuitable
rivalry
hesitation
intention
income
coarse
procession

By the end of class on Tuesday, you should know the meaning of all these words and what part of speech they are. Do not give me any homework until I ask for it, but come prepared to work with these words in class. See you then!

Sunday, 10 April

Gentlemen, today we will write about the film we saw last week, entitled, 'When the Moors Ruled in Europe'. You will have to write a paragraph which addresses the following points. Who were the Moors; where did they come from; where did they go in Europe; what year did they go there; what were the names of some of the famous cities that flourished or were built under their rule; what did they do there, and where are they now? Of course this means you will have to use information you get from the internet, as well as what you may have remembered from the film we saw on Thursday. You have to write a paragraph with a minimum of seven sentences. This is an individual assignment, each one of you must do this and turn it in to me via Edmodo by the end of today. An assignment tab will be provided for you on Edmodo. Also, please submit this paragraph on the writing submission form of this blog. Thank you gentlemen!

An Online Classroom Resource

Here is an online resource to help us all with our reading. It provides reading resources in the form of books to use all the time, 24/7. Project Gutenberg is an online resource where you can find and download books, in English for many authors in English literature. We want to use this to take short stories to read in class, to analyze the grammar, expand our vocabulary and practice our ability to summarize or reproduce ideas that we read.

Students can use this link to find and read books that interest them. It's easy to use too. If you know the title of the book or the author enter that information in the correct field and you're off. You can even download the books onto your laptop. Students take a few minutes to look around the Project Gutenberg web site and if you have any questions, don't forget to ask them in class.

Going Places

Can you imagine what is life without traveling? Is it possible? Whatever your reason is, traveling is a part of people's life. We all travel. The reason behind that is up to you. There are different reasons why people travel: 1.) Most People Travel because they want to see their families and friends who live far away.

2.)People travel to seek for work because they want to experience how to work from another place.

3.) People travel because they want to learn others cultures. They want to see the difference between their culture and other cultures.

4.) People travel because they want to see all beautiful scenery of different countries. Others would want to take pictures because it serves as souvenirs.

Traveling is not only for rich people. Whether you are poor or in the middle class, you can travel as long as it fits your budget. Some travel for their goals, some travel for fun and relaxation and some travel for experience.

Gentlemen, as you get ready to travel, decide on a place you'd like to visit and prepare your itinerary for travel.

The above link will give you an idea on how to go about inserting the places of interest in your presentation. Enjoy your work.
