The Japanese Disaster

Today we read an interesting article about the disaster in Japan and picked our way through some equally interesting vocabulary. Now that you have received your newly reformatted laptops, please take a moment to bookmark some good dictionary links to refer to whenever we have our vocabulary exercises. Besides the dictionary application that came with your laptop the following are quite good, but feel free to add some of your favorites as well.

This Week- 13-17 March

Gentlemen, this is a gentle reminder of what we have to look forward to this week. On Sunday, during the 7th period, G10-04 will have their laptops reformatted by DXB's IT department. You were told to save all class files on an external drive so that it won't get lost. Hopefully this will take care of all bugs we've experienced recently. Remember IAT's policy regarding laptops when you get yours back. G10-09 will be notified of the time and day for your laptops to get done as soon as I know.

Tuesday there will be no classes for students at the campus. Instead you will go for training with Al-Shaheen for the entire day. There is a homework assignment due that day however, so I expect you to turn it in, electronically, before you go off for your training. In other words there will be no excuse for not getting it done. The assignment was loaded onto Edmodo last Thursday, 10 March so you've had plenty of time.

G10-04 & G10-09

This week we had a really good library session with the librarian, Ms. Smallpiece. She explained how the online catalogue system for IAT's libraries work. G10-09 has already written their paragraph describing the session they had on Wednesday, now it's G10-04's turn.

This assignment is due on Sunday, so you have plenty of time to think about it during the weekend. You have to write a 100 word paragraph describing what you learned about the catalog system, how you use it to search for books, what are the parameters you use to find books, what are the online resources available and anything else you learned during your class in the library.

I would like to take the time to thank both classes for getting up to speed with Edmodo, the online program we use for making, and turning in assignments. Your parents can know the grades you receive for all Edmodo assignments either by providing an email address where they will be sent both your tasks and the grade you receive for them, or by you going to your Edmodo home page and clicking on the grade tab to see the grades for yourself. All Quia.com quiz grades are also available for you and your parents to view at anytime either of you like so please inform your parents of the ways they can know and follow your progress in grade 10 English.

10.3, 10.8 PROJECT

Gentlemen,

Your projects look great. The creativity you all have shown in the making of the logo, design, slogan, mission statement and advertisement for the LC 3 English project is amazing. It is a pleasure to see your hidden talent and splendid creativity. On Sunday you will be asked to peer edit the first draft of your formal letter in the class and then a final letter will be drafted. Be prepared with your first draft of the letter.

Well done! Keep up the good work.

Journal Activities:

Easier - You don't have to be a great writer, perfect speller, or creative thinker to keep a personal journal. Journal writing means that you regularly write down your thoughts and experiences.

Harder - A journal is a continued series of writings made by a person in response to their life experiences and events. Diaries contain a description of daily events. A journal may include those descriptions, but it also contains reflections on what took place and expresses emotions and understandings about them. It doesn't matter what you call your writing, either a diary or journal, as long as you see the distinction between these two ways of writing.
